Bill Viola graduated from Experimental Studios College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University in 1973. In the 70s and 80s he toured the South Pacific, Indonesia, Tunisia and Japan, studying music and dance, and learning the religious customs of various communities. He participated in the last Dokumenta in Kassel and Venice Biennale. Has had exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the MusŽe d'Art Contemporain in Montreal, Moderna Musset in Stockholm, the Whitechapel Art Gallery in London, the Sezon Museum of Art in Tokyo and the MusŽe National d'Art Moderne - Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.

Bill Viola ukończył Experimental Studios, College of Visual and Performing Arts, Syracuse University w Nowym Jorku w 1973 roku. W latach 70. i 80. podróżował w regiony Południowego Pacyfiku, do Indonezji, Tunezji i Japonii, studiował tam muzykę i taniec, poznawał obrzędowość religijną różnych społeczności. Uczestniczył w ostatniej prezentacji Dokumenta w Kassel oraz Biennale w Wenecji. Wytawiał w Museum of Modern Art i Whitney Museum of American Art w Nowym Jorku, Museum of Contemporary Art w Los Angeles, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, MusŽe d'Art Contemporain w Montrealu, Moderna Musset w Sztokholmie, Whitechapel Art Gallery w Londynie, Sezon Museum of Art w Tokio oraz MusŽe National d'Art Moderne - Centre Georges Pompidou w Paryżu.
