

HALINA CZERNY-STEFANSKA - POLAND
She studied the piano under her father Stanislaw Czerny, Jozef Turczynski, Zbigniew Drzewiecki and Alfred Cortot in Paris. First prize winner at the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 1949. Her repertoire includes pieces by composers of several periods starting with Bach up to the contemporary ones, it is however Chopin that dominates in it. Known to the music-lovers on all the continents. She appears as a soloist, chamber music player and together with prestigious orchestras. Juror at many international piano competitions, among others of Rubinstein in Tel-Aviv, Chopin in Warsaw, Sibelius in Helsinki, as well as in Leeds, Zwickau, Paris, Athens, Havana, Pretoria. She holds courses at music schools in Weimar, Darmstadt, Hamburg, Lugano, Tokyo, Nagoya. Made many records, among others for Deutsche Grammophon, Telefunken, Decca, His Master's Voise, RCA. She is recipient of major State distinctions.
