Graduate of the Peter Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow where she studied under Konstantin Igumnov and Jacob Flier. Winner of the Ist prize at the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 1949. During 28 seasons she used to appear as soloist with the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra. For 16 years had been teaching at Moscow Conservatory. In 1978 she emigrated to the West and in 1984 became American citizen. Has been giving concerts all over the world as a soloist, with famous orchestras, as well as a chamber music player. Among the distinguished conductors she appeared with were Rudolf Barshay, Semion Bykov, Sergiu Comissona, Kiril Kondrashin, Neville Mariner, Kurt Mazur, Eugene Ormandy, David Oistrakh, Mscislav Rostropovich, Edo de Waart. Sat on the jury of many international music competitions. She teaches at the Juilliard School of Music in New York. Has been making records for Philips, Orfeo, Novalis and Delos Records.
