Completed with honours his studies at the Music Academy in Cracow. He then studied under Prof. Zbigniew Drzewiecki. His first success was in 1947 when he won the first prize at the Competition of Young Talents in Rzeszow. In 1955 he won the 5th International Chopin Piano Competition. Two years later he was given a medal of the Harriet Cohen Foundation in London. In 1958 he appeared at the World Exhibition in Brussels and in 1960 inaugurated the Chopin Year in the UN hall in New York. Gave concerts in Europe, Asia and America. Has been appearing with the world(s major orchestras. Holds master classes in Austria and Germany. Juror at many international music competitions. He has recorded almost all the works by Chopin for the gramophone company of Philips, and for Polskie Nagrania - all mazurkas of that composer.
