IV. Applied Art: Design and their Realizations

A.Typography

The inventory of Wladyslaw Strzeminski's typographic works is repeated here (with some additions) after the catalogue prepared by Jerzy Andrzejewski and Michal Kuna for the publication Druk funkcjonalny. Wystawa zorganizowana przez Muzeum Sztuki w Lodzi i Lodzkie Towarzystwo Przyjaciol Ksiazki. (Exhibition organized by the Muzeum Sztuki in Lodz and the Lodz Society of Book Lovers), Lodz 1975. However, in this section, as in the whole of the present catalogue, the works are listed chronologically, not according to subject. All the works were shown at the exhibition mentioned above. The volumes of poetry published by the magazine ZWROTNICA and the publications of the "a.r." group accompanied all of the exhibitions of Polish Constructivist painting between 1971 and 1993. However, they were not included in the catalogues, except for Presences Polonaises. L'Art vivant autour du Musee de Lodz, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris 1983 and Constructivism in Poland 1923 to t936, Kettle's Yard Gallery, Cambridge 1984. They are also reproduced in the catalogues and studies of Strzeminski's art, functional typography, Constructivism; however, these sources have not been detailed here. Because the body etc. are not the single ones. In the case of not the single ones works marked in the listings with an asterisk, the authorship of Wladyslaw Strzeminski was determined on the basis of their similarity to other works signed with the artist's name or the accounts of the former students of the Public School of Technical Training no. 10 in Lodz.

Note: This work is known from a reprint (cf reprints, no. 2). These pages had been printed (as probably had the text) before the illustrations for the book were completed and before the name BIBLIOTEKA "a.r"("a.r."Library) was agreed upon. This information is contained in Strzeminski's letter to Przybos of Nov.13th, 1929. The book appeared after some funds became available in 1931 , as vol.2 of the BIBLIOTEKA "a.r. " (cf. cat.
